Rhosneigr, a charming village on the beautiful island of Anglesey, is a treasure trove of family-friendly activities. From golden sandy beaches to fascinating cultural heritage, and adventurous outdoor activities, there’s something for every child (and adult!) in Rhosneigr. Whether you’re visiting for the day, a long weekend, a week or even longer, here are some of the best things to do in Rhosneigr with kids.

Have Fun At The Beach

Rhosneigr boasts two stunning beaches, Traeth Crigyll and Traeth Llydan. Both offer expansive golden sands perfect for building sandcastles, exploring rock pools, or enjoying a family picnic.

During the summer months, the water is warm and the soft sand at the back of the beach heats up beautifully, providing a warm and comfortable spot to lounge. The rest of the beach is subject to tidal changes, revealing a multitude of rock pools at low tide. These natural aquariums offer children the exciting opportunity to explore and observe prawns and crabs in their natural habitat. To the right side of the beach flows the Crigyll River, an ideal place for inflatable water play or observing the flatfish that dwell beneath its surface.

It’s with noting that lifeguards are not on duty and dogs are allowed on the beaches.

Learn A New Watersport

If your little ones are water babies, why not learn a new water sport? FunSport and Gecko Sport in Rhosneigr both offer tuition in a variety of water sports, making it an ideal place for your children to try something new.

Join The Beach Club

FunSport also runs the Beach Club experience which is a two-hour session dedicated to teaching your children how to appreciate and enjoy water activities. Guided by their dynamic and passionate watersports instructors, your kids will gain confidence in the water while learning about safety. This gives you the perfect opportunity to unwind with a coffee under the sun. Depending on the weather, the instructor will engage your little ones in various fun-filled water-based activities. Not only does this help them develop new skills, but it also provides an excellent chance for them to make new friends during the holidays.

Visit The Beach Amenities

The town boasts a variety of amenities including several places to grab food and drink, retail outlets, and even a pizzeria, pubs, restaurants and coffee shops.  Public toilets can be found in the library car park (Awel-Y-Mor) for your convenience.

Join The Sports Camp

The Rhosneigr Sports Club hosts Summer Holiday Tennis & Multi-Sports Camps for children aged 6-11 years. It’s a fantastic opportunity for your kids to learn new skills, make friends, and stay active during the holidays.

Take Your Speed Demons To The Track

If you’re looking for some adrenaline-pumping fun, head to the Anglesey Trac and watch the racing. When it comes to viewing, nearly all parts of the track are accessible to spectators. From the thrilling hairpin turns to the impressive long straights, there’s no shortage of action to witness. It’s also an excellent chance for aspiring photographers to refine their skills in capturing fast-moving subjects. Additionally, the surrounding scenery is quite captivating, offering numerous opportunities for stunning shots. For those with older children, they might like to take part in a driving experience whilst at the track.

Go On A Short Walk & Look For Wildlife

Rhosneigr is a paradise for nature lovers. The walk around Llyn Maelog, a glorious place full of plant and animal life, makes for an incredible family adventure.

The Rhosneigr coastal walk, which is a part of the larger Anglesey Coastal Walk is another great option, offering stunning views and the chance to spot some local wildlife. It’s possible to walk in either direction from Rhosneigr. If your little people have got longer legs you might be interested in walking a longer stretch of the coastal path.

Take Your Aviation Enthusiasts Plane Spotting

RAF Valley, home to No. 4 Flying Training School, is a must-visit for aviation enthusiasts of all ages. Watch planes take off and land, and who knows, you might even spot a future Top Gun! You can safely watch aircraft at RAF Valley from the viewing area near the railway bridge, opposite the station’s main gate.

Soak Up The Local Culture & Heritage

Take a few minutes to visit the Rhosneigr War Memorial and reflect on the local history. For a quirky historical visit, check out Surf Point (Sausage Castle), a Grade II listed building built for a 20th-century sausage magnate, designed to resemble a sandcastle (the castle is not open to the general public, but you can view it from afar)!

Grab An Ice Cream

When you’re in Rhosneigr with your little ones, don’t miss a visit to Chaplin’s Ice Cream and Coffee Bar. It’s a delightful spot that offers an array of delicious ice creams, perfect for a sweet treat after a day at the beach. The welcoming atmosphere and family-friendly environment make it a must-visit destination for families visiting Rhosneigr.
