Easter Breaks in North Wales – Stay at Driftwood, Rhosneigr

North Wales easter breaks

Featured March 03, 2026 Author, Sharon Watkins

Easter is a brilliant time to visit Anglesey. The clocks have changed, the days are stretching out, and the island feels like it’s waking up – spring flowers in the hedgerows, seabirds back on the cliffs at South Stack, and beaches still blissfully free of summer crowds. If you’ve been putting off a break, this is the nudge.

Driftwood sits right in the heart of Rhosneigr, a short stroll from the beach. It’s the kind of place where you can walk in sandy and slightly windswept, and feel entirely welcome. We’ve got stylish, comfortable rooms, a proper breakfast made with locally sourced ingredients, and enough local knowledge to point you towards the best walks, cafes, and hidden corners of the island.

Whether you’re after an action-packed Easter weekend or a few slow days by the sea, Rhosneigr makes a great base – and Driftwood is ready for you.

Why Easter is a great time to visit North Wales

Spring in North Wales has a particular kind of energy. The landscape looks fresh, the light is softer than in the height of summer, and you get the best of the coast without the August bank holiday crowds. Rhosneigr’s beaches, already some of the finest on Anglesey, feel almost like your own at this time of year.

The Easter holidays also bring a good spread of activities across the island and beyond. Many National Trust properties run Easter trails and egg hunts – Plas Newydd House and Gardens near Llanfairpwll is usually a lovely day out at this time of year, with the gardens coming into bloom. Over on the mainland, Penrhyn Castle near Bangor typically has seasonal events on too.

And then there’s Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, just over the Menai Bridge. A drive through the Ogwen Valley, a stop in Betws-y-Coed, or a walk up into the hills makes a brilliant contrast to a morning on the coast.

Things to do near Rhosneigr at Easter

You won’t be short of things to do. Rhosneigr itself is well known for watersports.  The bay is one of the best kitesurfing and windsurfing spots in Wales, and the surf school runs sessions throughout the spring. If you’d rather keep your feet dry, the Anglesey Coastal Path offers spectacular walking in both directions from the village.

Further afield, Newborough Forest and Llanddwyn Beach are one of those places that genuinely stop you in your tracks – forest trails opening onto wide sands with views towards the Llŷn Peninsula. South Stack Lighthouse on Holy Island is another highlight, especially in spring when puffins and razorbills return to the cliffs.

If you’re travelling with children, Anglesey has plenty to keep them busy – farm parks, Easter egg hunts, boat trips, and enough rockpooling to fill an afternoon without anyone checking their phone.

We’re always happy to give recommendations tailored to your stay. Just ask when you arrive, or drop us a message before you come.

Places to visit on an Easter break in North Wales

Staying in Rhosneigr puts you in a great position for exploring the whole island. Beaumaris is well worth a visit – the castle is one of the finest examples of medieval military architecture in Europe, and the town itself has some excellent places to eat. Menai Bridge and Beaumaris are both easy half-day trips.

For a longer day out, cross to the mainland and head into Snowdonia. Conwy Castle, the Ogwen Valley, and the villages around Betws-y-Coed are all within easy reach. In spring, the waterfalls are at their best, and the mountain roads are clear without being choked with traffic.

Back in Rhosneigr, the village has a handful of good cafes and a relaxed, unhurried pace that makes it easy to do nothing much at all – which, after a winter of long commutes and busy calendars, is sometimes exactly what’s needed.
