Trywydd Copr (Copper Trail)

This circular cycle route takes you on a tour of the island’s north and covers some of the island’s finest features. The route mostly follows National Cycle Network route 566 on a series of quiet country lanes (except for a small section of Route 5).

While you can join the route at any stage (we’ve linked to an OS map below), we’ve pinpointed Llynnon Mill, near Llanddeusant. You’ll pass the disused copper mines of Parys Mountain, Amlwch, Cemlyn Bay Nature Reserve and so much more. The landscape, views and wildlife on on display throughout the route are phenomenal and well worth the occasional break to take in.

You can take this 33 mile journey in sections, or even as part of a larger trip around Anglesey, but if you love cycling and nature, you should definitely do it.

Where is it?

As mentioned, you can join the cycleway from multiple different locations – though we’ve pinpointed the Melin Llynon, Llanddeusant as our start point based on its access to Route 566. This start point is accessible from Junction 4 of the North Wales Expressway (A55), then Fford Llundain to the B5109 which will take you to the A5025. There are several routes that will take you to Melin Llynon from here – most of which use unnamed roads, so it’s important to make sure you have your sat nav switched on. The mill itself has a car park, while route 556 is the road that runs along in front of the site of the mill.
