As summer fades into the embrace of autumn, Anglesey reveals its captivating charm. Whilst the temperature on the island might be starting to drop as we head towards the cooler months, the average temperature is still 17℃ and it’s the perfect temperature for many of the events and activities that are happening around the island. Highlights this month include the Ring of Fire Anglesey Coastal Half Marathon, Beaumaris RunFest and the Anglesey Autofest.  

In addition to the events listed below, there is a plethora of fantastic Anglesey landmarks as well as museums and galleries to see around the island. Here’s a curated list of the best activities to enjoy on Anglesey during September 2023.

Run The Ring of Fire Anglesey Coastal Half Marathon

Take part or go along and on runners taking part in The Ring of Fire Anglesey Coastal Half Marathon, an exhilarating race that takes participants on a stunning journey along Anglesey’s breathtaking coastline. This challenging event offers both physical and scenic rewards as runners navigate the rugged terrain, scenic vistas, and refreshing sea air. With the dramatic landscape as a backdrop, this half marathon promises an unforgettable experience for both seasoned runners and those seeking a unique athletic adventure.

Participate In The Black Diamond Torchlight Trail

The Torchlight Trail is a captivating 5K or 10 K nighttime adventure that lights up the trails along Anglesey’s coastal paths. Participants carry torches as they explore the rugged beauty of the landscape under the starry skies. This unique event combines the thrill of trail running with the enchantment of a torchlit exploration, creating a memorable experience for runners of all levels.

Take Part In Or Support Superfeet Sandman Triathlon

The Superfeet Sandman Triathlon is a thrilling multi-discipline event that tests participants’ endurance and skills in swimming, cycling, and running. Set against the stunning backdrop of Anglesey’s coastline, this triathlon offers a challenging course for athletes of various levels. From the swim in the sea to the scenic cycling route and the invigorating run, the Superfeet Sandman Triathlon promises an unforgettable and rewarding athletic experience. It’s one of the few Triathlons in the calendar with a beach start and sea swim. If you’re a supporter you can build sandcastles and eat ice cream!

Run In Beaumaris RunFest

This highly successful event, sponsored by Midland Tapas Beaumaris, is returning again this year. The weekend of running incorporates races for children and the fantastic Coast 2 Castle 10k and half marathon for adults.

Junior RunFest: The children’s races start (5 pm) and finish inside the historic Beaumaris Castle! There’s a “Fun Run” for 3/4 year olds (which also welcomes older children and adults too!), and races for boys and girls 5/6 years old (1/2 mile), 7/8 years old (3/4 mile), 9/10 years old (1 mile) and 11/12 years old (1 mile).

Classic Beaumaris RunFest: The adult races make a welcome return this year. The 10k and half marathon starts from the centre of Beaumaris and finishes in the heart of the town’s historic castle.

Go On A Coastal Walk

Join the North Wales Wildlife Trust on a captivating wildlife walk along this scenic coastline, exploring a circular route that includes Church Island and the Aberffraw headland. Booking is essential.

Wax The Holyhead Cenotaph – Bronze Waxing

This year commemorates the centenary of the unveiling of the Holyhead cenotaph. Join the Holyhead THI and collaborate with the Farmers Bronze Restoration team to participate in waxing the bronzes on the cenotaph. The session will include a brief history of the cenotaph and instruction on the specialist techniques used.

Visit The NGS OPEN GARDEN at ANGLESEY BEES 

Anglesey Bees are opening their gardens to the public to help raise money for The Charity Bees for Development.

Visit the magical, maturing 7.5-acre wildlife garden with a beautiful large spring-fed pond with islands and a stream. The garden is a delight for families with a fun summer house, information boards, a woodland treasure hunt and picnic areas. Learn all about honey bees at the Meet the Beekeeper presentations, look at the apiary, take a walk through the bee-friendly woodland and maybe buy some honey.

Learn At The Community Archaeology Open Day

Go and learn about what has been discovered during the recent community archaeology project at Ty’n y Mynydd historic farmstead. There are a variety of activities throughout the day and a plethora of information is available about recent discoveries. There is also a children’s activity called Spot the Feature.
