Holyhead Mountain Circular Walk
The Holyhead Mountain Circular Walk takes in much of the north and west of Holy Island – including a shorter walk between South Stack and Porth Dafarch, but with the chance to take in the views from North Stack, the Iron Age settlement of Caer y Twr, and plenty more besides to be added to the itinerary.
This is a fairly long walk that can be broken up into several shorter routes, but if you’re able to manage it all in one day, it’s more than worth it – just remember to stay hydrated and take a packed lunch. Helpfully, Visit Anglesey has prepared a downloadable PDF showing the various routes (including written instructions) which will help with navigation in areas where mobile signal can get patchy (though the route is well maintained and the path clear).
Where is it?
You can find Breakwater Country Park and its car park by taking the North Wales Expressway (A55) to Holyhead, then Victoria Road, left on to Prince of Wales Road then following this until it becomes Beach Road. There is a split in the road on the left marked by a low wall indicating the way to Breakwater Country Park. This will take you all the way there – it’s a little over a mile. The start of the Anglesey Coastal Path is just to the north of the car park (you can follow a path to the left of the lake, then left at the end and right onto the trail).
